Each page of this book is designed to be completed in about 20 minutes when using markers, the optimal amount of time to hush those spiraling thoughts.

Characters & Lore
Who are the dogs in the book?
The characters are inspired by real dogs from the Heights neighborhood in Houston, Texas. Each character is either a direct impression of a dog or a combination of dogs with similar breeds/personalities. We will be posting more about the real life dogs that inspired each character on this site and social media!

Is there more to this story and these characters?
The 17th Street project is planned as a multi-book world, with stories behind each dog. Their lives, trials, and tribulations will be explored in future books. From space exploration to surviving more earthly wars, these dogs have seen it all.

Why are the dogs so …weird and kinda rough around the edges?
These dogs are all hand-drawn. Their weird, unpolished style is an intentional decision by yours truly, the artist. It’s a protest fighting the sea of perfect, polished, AI-generated, and heavily edited images. These characters and their stories are intended to be imperfect, unique, and very human in today’s age of machine precision.

What’s Inside
How many full-page illustrations are included?
The book contains 23 original full-page dog-themed illustrations. There are no repeat designs. The book also includes 7 color testing pages for trying markers, pencils, and & gel pens.
As a bonus, we’ve included 2 interactive pages for you and your pet to create a paw print keepsake. 💗

Are the illustrations single-sided or double-sided?
They are single-sided so you can avoid bleed-through. Simply slip a sheet protector behind the page and you’re good to go.

Are the illustrations AI or hand-drawn?
The artwork is hand-drawn. No images are autogenerated. Each piece is crafted to have personality, authenticity, and charisma.

Paper Quality & Media
What is the paper thickness?
The book uses premium 60–70 lb white paper (Amazon printing standards), thick enough for most dry media. Each book is printed within your region so the paper quality can vary based on your location.

What Media can I use?
You can safely use:
- colored pencils
- crayons
- gel pens
- alcohol markers (with a blotter sheet underneath)
For alcohol-based markers (Copic, Ohuhu, etc.), use a sheet of cardstock or multiple sheets of paper behind the page to protect the next sheet.
Warning: Using wet media such as watercolor paint may warp the paper. Feel free to test out different media using the included test pages.

What kind of binding does this have?
The book is perfect bound like most trade paperbacks. Perfect bound book pages are are glued together at the spine. The book is designed to be thin so that it can still lay relatively flat when open.

Is this book perforated? Can I tear out pages?
While the pages are not perforated, you can carefully remove a page with a exacto knife if you want to frame or gift it.

Does the book include offensive language or adult content?
Our first book in the 17th Street series is PG-13 (there are some puppy nipples and butt-cheeks here and there). However, our upcoming books will delve into more serious adult topics such as dealing with neglect, abuse, and overcoming life’s problems. Yeah. They’re getting realer and darker.
